I hope you’ll forgive the low production quality and complete lack of credits/intro/music in this vid – I’ve had a pretty difficult time trying to post this from Portugal (due in part to a busy schedule with few breaks, fewer Internet access points, and a rather massive laptop PC crash… the HORROR!).
Anyway, I felt it important in the Going Pro saga to report in from Portugal while I was still actually in Portugal – and especially since I was here in a “pro” context. In the short vid, I talk about a few of the inspirational things that struck me during the conference (most of which consisted of me getting to hang with some seriously talented MW peeps). As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments, so long as they’re not about my hair or the fact that I had to whisper since I was recording this vid early in the morning!).

"for the love of the game" …often, not a popular phrase among the type-A set and business moguls, but it's a thought that I had thrown out during my WBC10 panel. If you (or I, or Jancis Robinson, or James Suckling, for that matter…not to put myself in that crowd) do not absolutely love the subject matter of your blog and career, then the message doesn't convey that "joie de vivre" that made you interesting in the first place. All those MWs' passion and humility probably has a lot to do with their success…
Joe – you don't know the half of it. Those peeps are inspiring to watch!
Agreed, it's all about sharing your love for wine. The wine writers get it. And the publicists get it. My biggest frustration is that the vast majority of the smaller winemakers — the ones who don't have a marketing budget, and therefore the ones who need social media more than ANYONE — they're the ones who don't get it. And the majority of those who THINK they get it spend most of their time talking to other winemakers… *sigh*
Thanks, Matt – while I do know a TON of winemakers who do get it, I do understand your point (especially the point of the winemaker goggles being donned! :-). Cheers!
