2021 Ottin Torrette Superieur Valle d’Aosta (Aosta Valley): A bodacious burst of delicious, delicate, and delectable red fruit. $32 A-
2019 Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Rhone): A bit viscous, but also more than a bit voluptuous. $75 A-
2012 Roth Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley): A fine showing of an elder statesman Cab, with cedar, cigar box, stewed red and black plums, and incense in no short supply. $28 B+
2012 Roth Estate Heritage Red (Alexander Valley): This one probably started out life on the decadent side, and never lost its way. $30 B+
2009 Villa Ragazzi Rodeno Vineyards Sangiovese (Napa Valley): Remember way back when Napa was all about Sangio as the next big thing? This is one of the reasons why. $45 A-
2019 Duckhorn Vineyards Three Palms Vineyard Merlot (Napa Valley): From the plums to the black olives to the dark chocolate, everything is AMPED up on this fine specimen, which should appeal to Duckhorn fans young and old alike. $115 A-
2019 Anakota Helena Montana Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley): Dammmmned young and damned good; this fully expresses why KV is such a hot item when it comes to prime CA Cab real estate. $180 A
2021 Domaine Bousquet ‘Virgen’ Natural Cabernet Sauvignon (Tupungato): Fruity and friendly, though it should have a warning label about how dangerously easy it is to drink. $15 B
2013 Catena High Mountain Vines Malbec (Mendoza): Delicious. Texturally excellent, with nice balance of roundness and verve. You can’t keep the old mountain man down, apparently! $NA B+
2019 Hardy’s Tintara Reserve Shiraz (McLaren Vale): Spicy, ripe, and affable, and more than a mouthful. $25 B
