Cave Drawings: Lessons in Wine and Social Media

1WineDude.com friend, fellow blogger, and wine media maven Mike Wangbickler (a.k.a. Caveman Wines) recently gave a presentation on the topic of social media marketing at Napa Valley College.  It’s a fantastic primer for folks in the wine biz who need an introduction into the concepts and approaches behind engaging wine consumers on-line, so I’m sharing it below.

Even if you’re not in the wine biz, it’s a good and quick read (and contains some startling numbers on the growing influence of peer networking when it comes to consumer purchases).

Great work, Mike!

Based on my observations and research into social media over the past two years I find that slide presentation to be fairly spot on. I also got a good laugh out of the "Wikipedia (mostly)" source. Joe already follows the steps by allowing his comment threads to become dialogue's he responds to, not just blog posts that shoot out a one-sided message.

Thanks, Dylan – I try *very* hard not to let the comments section become an area where a few people might converse and others just throw their links up for Google SEO purposes, etc., and instead to be a dialog as you say. That's actually one of the reasons I put IntenseDebate on the site (well, that and the fact that the default comment handling in WordPress didn't work ;-). Cheers!

And thanks, Mike! So glad you were able to cover that class for me…and you have updated the WTF is Social Media presentation beautifully! Thanks for including Hahn etc. Most appreciated. Wish I could have been there!
