Wine Reviews: Mini Round-Up for February 28, 2022

I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

• 2020 San Piero Rive di San Pietro di Feletto Brut (Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore): Valuing refreshment above all else, but still holding refinement as a core belief. $NA B+
• NV Brancher Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG Extra Dry Superiore (Veneto): ‘B’ is for Banana Bread! $20 B
• NV Cantine Vedova ‘Casa dei Faveri – Casa Farive’ Extra Dry (Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore): Crowd-pleasing bargain of apple orchard fruit action. $13 B+
• 2017 Herdade de Sao Miguel Colheita Seleccionada (Alentejo): Fleshy, broad, and ok, a little chunky; those fine black plum flavors will earn forgiveness for its minor sins. $25 B+
• 2013 The Winery SF Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast): Mature, earthy, gamey, and primed for intellectually stimulating conversation. $NA B+
• 2016 Rodney Strong Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley): Well, look at you, still all fresh, earthy, vibrant, and overachieving! $20 B+
• 2018 Charles Woodson Intercept Hall of Fame Edition Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles): Concentrated, spicy stuff that’ll get the (steak house) crowd leaping to their feet. $150m A-
• 2014 Spelletich Cellars Bodog Red (Napa Valley): Kickin’ it funky style with supple, big-but-elegant red fruits. $62 A-
• 2019 Pascual Toso Reserva Las Barrancas Vineyard Malbec (Barrancas): Raspberries galore, and they’re of several (ripe!) types. $25 B+
• 2019 Pascual Toso Las Barrancas Vineyards Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon (Barrancas): Delicious, rich, delicious, herbal, silky, and… delicious $28 B+
