By most counts, 2009 was a great year for 1WineDude.com.
The blog won some awards. I got interviewed – quite a lot. The blog was featured in some cool places. I got to contribute to some great publications (like CNBC and Mutineer Mag). And getting mentioned in Yahoo! Tech news and the L.A. Times was really cool.
But…
I’ve got this ugly, nagging feeling of “so much left undone” when it comes to one effort in 2009 that had special meaning for me.
Simply put, the progress on my initiative to Help Kick Alzheimer’s Ass has been really, really disappointing.
Let’s make one thing very clear right off the bat: I did NOT push the Help Kick Alzheimer’s Ass initiative as hard as I should have. And for the most part, 1WineDude.com readers were FANTASTIC at spreading the word on the initiative on Facebook and twitter. And some very, very generous people have donated to the cause.
But the Alzheimer’s Association has been a total FAIL when it comes to helping me promote this fundraiser, and we have a LONG WAY to go before we reach our fundraising goal.
So, I’m starting 2010 by asking you a favor.
- If you’ve ever liked anything that you’ve read on this blog, please donate a dollar.
- If you’ve ever had a loved one who suffered from Alzheimer’s, please donate a dollar.
- If you want me to shut up about raising money for this initiative, please donate a dollar.

You know, I've seen the "FIRST!" thing all over the place, and I've NEVER understood the fascination that people have with that. Maybe I'll start posting "NOT FIRST!" in comments on other blogs / forums and see if it confuses people… :-)
