Weekly Wine Quiz: Serve ‘Em Up, Paaaahrdner!1 min read

Welcome to the Weekly Wine Quiz, amigos!

Based on feedback from ever-so-vocal-and-intelligent peeps like you, I supply the quiz question each week, but do *not* supply the quiz answer directly in the post – YOU supply your best guess for the answer in the comments, and then tune back in later today in the comments section for the official answer. I might be delayed yet AGAIN in getting around to posting the answer since I’m on the road (in Sonoma… again…) this week – your patience is most appreciated!

Here’s another tricky one for y’all, inspired by my recent Wined Down column interview about local wines with AZ winemaker and bona fide rock star Maynard James Keenan:

Serve ‘Em Up, Paaaahrdner!

Arizona now has almost fifty licensed and bonded wineries, but its wines have been served in a few high-profile places. Can you guess at which of the following events Arizona wines have NOT been poured?

  • A) James Beard House dinners
  • B) The White House
  • C) The 2010 Oscars

Cheers – and good luck!

I have to guess, The White House. I believe that if the White House received a bottle of Arizona Wine for the Arizona State House, they would let Joe Biden test it first.

      Joeshico – ouch! ;-)

That should read 'from' the Arizona State House.

Don't worry, I think we got it :).

The Oscars! Arizona wine has actually been poured at the White House twice… and at the James Beard House three times. Arizona Stronghold has taken home five gold medals and six silvers in four prestigious int'l wine competitions this year: The Dallas Morning News, TexSom Wine Competition, Taster Guild Int'l Wine Judging, Sunset International Wine Competition and the San Francisco Int'l Wine Competition (where they won a Double Gold for their 2010 Dala Cabernet Sauvignon). Don't count out Arizona. There are great wines being produced here.

RhonniFromAZ – Ah, an insider! You're like the Quiz ringer today… :) BTW, I'm not counting AZ wines out nor am I insinuating that anyone should (have you seen the coverage here and at PB .com lately??? ;-). Cheers!

I didn't take it that way at all… I'm just a big AZ wine fan and thought I'd share some interesting tidbits. :)

Ok… The *official* answer for this week's quiz is…

    C. The 2010 Oscars

While AZ wines have seen some impressive locations and celebrations, the Academy Awards isn't one of them. As in years past, CA producer Sterling has had the honor of supplying the official wines for the Oscar festivities.

    Cheers!
