Wait, I’m working on ANOTHER book? WTAF?!??
Yes, I am working on yet another book. Presumably, as one friend of mine put it, I have a higher pain threshold than most.
When I was hired to write Wine Taster’s Guide (and its companion book, Wine Taster’s Journal), the goal was to take on the “traditional” beginner’s wine book (introducing winemaking, regions, grape varieties, and the like) but through a non-traditional approach (focusing on learning via comparative tastings, which includes the most fun part of wine: drinking it). Working on those books became a masterclass in editing, as I insisted that every single sentence had to to be both accessible and useful.

More recently, when I sat down to write a blog post about how it’s perfectly fine for people to enjoy wine (and even collect it) without getting too deep into any of that traditional stuff that we just assume people need to learn before they can enjoy wine, what came out was a much longer effort that I turned into a book (How to WIN at Wine: A Practical Playbook for Getting Maximum Enjoyment from Every Bottle — Without Spending a Fortune). The goal there was to craft something in a much more streamlined and stylized prose, skipping the traditional wine beginner’s book stuff almost entirely.
With this new-newest book, I had yet another totally different aim. I felt that I did not know enough about what was happening with respect to artificial intelligence in the wine world, and that got me to doing some research. That research turned into an entire mini-tome delving into AI’s place in wine, now and in the future, with a more CNN-level academic style of prose (and yes, it comes complete with lots and lots of footnotes and cited sources). All of that effort is now quickly becoming the soon-to-be-released The Algorithm and the Vine: How AI Is Redefining Wine from Vineyard to Glass.
At this rate of jumping into writing projects that stylistically are miles apart from one another, my next book will probably end up be a graphic novel…
