Wine Reviews: Weekly Mini Round-Up For October 28, 20191 min read

in wine mini-reviews

I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!

  • 2018 Heinrich Johann Grüner Veltliner (Traisental): From veggies to citrus to nuts, this one has “classic” written all over it. $NA B+
  • 2017 Herwald Hauleitner Rosengerten Gruner Veltliner (Traisental): A floral tribute to its vineyard name, and it’s deadly serious about it all, too. $NA B+
  • 2017 Alex Siedler Alte Setzen Gruner Veltliner (Traisental): When you need your veggies steamed, and your citrus ripe. $NA B+
  • 2016 Weingut Herwald Hauleitner Setzen Gruner Veltliner “Selektion” (Traisental): Age and beauty have no issue getting along here. $NA A-
  • 2011 Weingut Herzinger Pinot Noir (Niederosterreich): Black tea, served with game meats and tart red plums. So, yeah, we’re not fooling around. $NA A-
  • 2016 Gary Farrell Russian River Selection Pinot Noir (Sonoma County): Having a ton of fun, and looking very, very good doing it. $40 A-
  • 2015 La Pitchoune Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast): You will find loveliness; it’s just past the toast, nuts, flint, and white peaches… $48 A-
  • 2015 Markham Vineyards Yountville Estate Merlot (Yountville): If you’re going to have to order one meant for a business dinner, it might as well be a good one. $55 A-
  • 2016 Silver Ghost Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley): Holy crap… decent CB from NV for not a lot of mo-ney?!? $35 A-
  • 2015 Le Dix de Los Vascos (Colchagua Valley): It’s Le Good, Le Tasty, and Le Tangy, too. $65 A-
