Wine Reviews: Weekly Mini Round-Up for March 29, 20211 min read

in wine mini-reviews

I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!

  • 2016 Herdade do Rocim Alicante Bouschet (Alentejo): Floral, silky, pretty, and pretty complete. Nicely done. $16 B+
  • 2016 Perinet (Priorat): Brazenly fruity, with dried violets, sweet tannins, and an ENORMOUS personality. $82 A-
  • 2016 Cecchi Riserva di Famiglia (Chianti Classico): Aromatic, tangy, assertive… but willing to play nice at the dinner table. $39 A-
  • 2016 Maso Martis Rose Extra Brut (Trento): Dried lavender, Bing cherry, smoked meat, fresh bread, rose petals, pepper… complex and moody, and one of the best Trento DOC roses in recent memory! $60 A
  • 2015 Caraccioli Cellars Brut Cuvee (Santa Lucia Highlands): Yeasty, fruity, feisty, and fabulously delicious. $50 A-
  • 2019 La Marea Alternative Cut Kristy Vineyard Albariño (Monterey County): Rocking the salinity, the length, and basically everything else, too. $30 A-
  • 2018 Dutton-Goldfield Redwood Ridge Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast): Pomegranate and herbal tea with a side of near-rapture. $68 A-
  • 2018 Sosie Wines ‘A Moment of Weakness’ Sparkling Red (Sonoma County): Fresh, funky, fruity barrels of fun, all the way down. $35 B+
  • 2018 Chalone Vineyard Estate Grown Chardonnay (Chalone): Affable and balanced in ways that are not easy to resist. $30 B+
  • 2018 Dry Creek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Dry Creek Valley): Deliciously dark-fruited, darkly herbal, and grippingly dark. $29 B+
