Wine Reviews: Weekly Mini Round-Up for February 1, 20211 min read

in wine mini-reviews

I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.

They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), and are presented links to help you find them, so that you can try them out for yourself. Cheers!

  • 2018 Baglio di Pianetto Frappato (Sicily): Mineral, spicy, bright, and getting directly to the fun point. $13 B
  • 2018 Baglio di Pianetto ‘Ficiligno’ Insolia – Viognier (Sicily): Tropical, floral, and incredibly gulp-able. $17 B+
  • NV Baglio di Pianetto ‘Fusha’ Brut (Sicily): You pretty much had me at ‘Insolia’ and ‘Bubbles’. $NA B+
  • 2018 Sensi ‘Governato’ (Tuscany): The dark plummy fruits might be a tad muddled, but the structure is clear as day. $NA B+
  • MV Pasqua ‘Hey French’ Bianco (Veneto): There’s some tasty, toasty, trippy and totally delicious drinking to be had from this multi-vintage wonder. $40 A-
  • 2015 Vite Colte ‘Essenze’ del Comune di Monforte d’Alba (Barolo): Tasty, tangy cherries and tobacco, with tannins as tough as nails. $50 B+
  • 2010 Vite Colte ‘Essenze’ Riserva (Barolo): Dried rose petal, wet earth, raisins, and a big, gnarly attitude. $90 A-
  • 2017 Dow’s Vale do Bomfim (Douro): Portugal’s rugged terraced terrain shows off its fruity, friendly side. $13 B
  • 2015 Veramonte Primus Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo): Power-hitter, full of prunes, cassis, and chewy, well, everything. $19 B+
  • 2015 Odfjell Armador Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo): Earthy, herbal and Old School sipper that won’t set your bank account back. $15 B
