  • 07 Castello Monaci “Piluna” Primitivo (Salento): Italy’s boot heel delivers a tasty value of spicy, peppery black fruit Zin kick to yo face! #
  • 08 Penns Woods Traminette (PA): Gino Razzi’s attempt at a “simple” sipper instead yields semi-complex layers of pear, lychee, spice & cream. #
  • 07 Kanonkop Pinotage (Stellenbosch): Que up ‘Funkytown’ because this black fruited bacony beauty is gonna take you there. “Gotta move on…” #
  • 07 Raats Chenin Blanc (Stellenbosch): A striking profile – quince, honey, lemon, butter, & piercing ginger. Give it another 2 yrs… #
  • 07 Lucienne Doctor’s Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands): Is it tasty? Yes. But is it also too Jammy? Yes. Pinot for Zin lovers? #
  • 07 Hugel Gewurztraminer “Hugel” (Alsace): Her Spicyness has awoken. She is beautiful & hungry, and she demands Thai food immediately! #

  • 07 Saunter Petite Sirah (Napa Valley): Very big, very dark, & very good. Feed this beast some grilled bison steak & roasted potatoes. #
  • 07 Verge Syrah (Dry Creek Valley): Excellent vintage & it shows. These luscious blackberries have some funky dirt on 'em – lucky for us. #
  • 07 Olsen Ogden Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley): The booze may be big, but so is the strawberry action, and that fruit is puuuuuuure, baby. #
  • 07 Napa Cellars Mount Vedeer Chardonnay (Napa): A buttery fruit bomb. But for what it's worth, a fruit bomb with serious mineral action. #
  • 08 Twomey Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley): Bad vintage, but really good wine. A cunning balancing act of tropical fruit, veggies & minerals. #
  • 05 Twomey Merlot (Napa Valley): Here's something A. Dias Blue & I can finally agree on. Dark, dense, powerful, spicy, excellent & expensive. #
  • 07 Rancho Zabaco Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek): Brings great spicy black fruit to the party. Also brings obnoxious drunk friend Petite Sirah #
  • 07 Carmen Chardonnay (Central Valley): A ride through the tropical fruit garden. The wheels aren't all balanced, but the ride's a bargain. #
  • Black Box Wines Cabernet Sauvignon (CA): A decent buy but not nearly as strong as their other releases. Stick to their value Syrah or Chard. #
  • 07 Polka dot Medium Dry Riesling (Pfalz): Green is the packaging. And the fruit (green apple, lime). And the (under) ripeness of that fruit. #
  • 08 Prime Cellars District 4 Chardonnay (Napa Valley): Big, but damn good & food-friendly thnx to balanced oak + stainless treatment. Bravo! #
  • 06 Black Cloud Pinot Noir (Okanagan Falls): Promising 1st effort, balancing elegance & brambly fruit, kind of like Brer Rabbit in a tuxedo. #

  • 08 Santa Carolina Reserva Carmenere (Rapel Valley): Brings the QPR like Thor brought the Mjölner hammer down on those horny Nordic giants. #
  • 07 Odfjell Armador Carmenere (Chile): Tar, spice & earthiness. Like any given patch of said earth, solid if unremarkable. #
  • 07 Vui Manent Carmenere Reserva (Colchagua Valley): The supple mouthfeel will reward you for getting past the overly-green pepper nose. #
  • 07 Cono Sur Vision Carmenere (Colchagua Valley): Trip through the farm! First the barnyard, then thru green peppers, & stop at a berry patch #
  • 08 Vina La Rosa 'La Capitana' Carmenere (Colchagua Valley): Crazy good value with cocoa powder, plum & the faintest hint of green pepper. #
  • 07 Ventisquero Grey Carmenere (Maipo Valley): Pine cones & cough syrup. With that taste, I should have saved this for when I had bronchitis. #
  • 07 Terra Andina Altos Carmenere-Carignan (Central Valley): Dark Dr. Pepper meets stewed red fruits, and makes quick work of your flank steak #
  • 04 Carmen Winemaker's Reserve Red (Maipo Valley): VG Bord'x style blend. Sexy, sophisticated, refined, elegant, & pretty darn expensive. #
  • 07 Olson Ogden Wines Unti Vineyard Syrah (Dry Creek Valley): Like Juggernaut from the X-Men, but made of potent kick-ass red berry fruit. #
  • 08 Grooner Gruner Veltliner (Kremstal): Tart, citrusy & very capable intro. to Austria's answer to Sauv Blanc. Unleash it on a salad course. #
  • 06 Heron Hill Ingle vineyard Riesling (Finger Lakes): I wanted to stick a straw into this lime awesomeness & just suck down the entire thing #
  • 05 Kanu Kia-Ora Noble Late Harvest (Stellenbosch): Like almond brittle made with apricot & doused in kerosene. But in a totally good way. #
  • 06 Rockaway Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley): It seems criminal to open it this early. Give it 6 yrs to unfold its multilayered magic. #
  • NV Pommery Champagne Brut Royal (Reims): Smaller than a breadbox, but somehow they managed to get the entire loaf in the bottle anyway. #

  • 07 Scloss Reinhartshausen Fountain Blue Riesling (Rheingau): ABCs of the region – Austere, Balanced, & Critical mass of apricot goodness #
  • 07 Scloss Reinhartshausen Old Vines Riesling (Rheingau): Victorian-statue austere. White peach & pineapple demand that u kiss their rings! #
  • 07 Schloss Reinhartshausen Erbach Erstes Gewachs Riesling (Rheingau): Peach, tropical fruit & enough booze to rock your T-Day turkey feast. #
  • 07 Schloss Reinhartshausen Erbacher Marcobrunn Auslese (Rheingau): Drop dried apricots in a vat of local honey. Now, serve it in heaven. #
  • 06 Josh Cellars Amber Knolls Cabernet Sauvignon (Red Hills, CA): An economical choice for lovers of big (aka Fruity + Oaky) CA Cab. #
  • 07 Errazuriz Don Maximiano Single Viny'd Carmenere (Aconcagua Valley): A lush plum pie, but some of the bites have chunks of bell pepper… #
  • 08 Big House Pink (CA): If it's a house, it's a house carved out of the patch by Strawberry Shortcake herself. Competent if unexciting rose. #
  • 07 Josef Leitz Eins Zwei Dry Riesling (Rheingau): Great approachable, turkey-friendly, if a bit over-priced example of Rheingau goodness. #
  • 05 Halter Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles): Intense & extracted, this is tasty but the booze needs to be approached with caution. #
  • 01 Rutherford Hill Merlot (Napa Valley): Waves of tar & game are gently pulling at the blackberry & cedar shore. Adult swim, baby! #
  • 07 Santa Carolina Reserva de Familia Carmenere (Rapel Valley): Dark, fruity, & green-peppery. Mouthfeel outshines the nosefeel. Nosefeel? #
  • 06 Mollydooker Enchanted Path (McLaren Vale): Has every red flavor you can think of, & it just might stand up to aging vs. the immense booze #
