  • 07 Schloss Lieser Niederberg Helden Riesling Auslese (Mosel): Crazy good & fwd-thinking producer. Magic blend of honey-lemon & minerals. #
  • 08 Fitz-Ritter Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spatlese (Pfalz): All tropics upfront, gives way to a great sweet / acid balance & long finish #
  • 07 Fitz-Ritter Durkheimer Hochbenn Riesling Eiswein (Pfalz): Combine lemon curd, glycerin, nail polish & honey-lemon. And it’s stellar. #
  • 94 Max Fer. Richter Jeffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling TBA (Mosel): (Too) trad. producer. But this achingly sweet burnt-orange syrup is crazy good… #
  • 02 Kesselstatt Josesphshofer Riesling Spatlese (Mosel): Mesquite honey & citrus. Sweet, racy, lively… and sublimely good. #

  • 07 Schafer Frohlich Riesling Spatlese (Nahe): It’s like the album ‘Pet Sounds’; everyone loves it, but I just don’t quite seem to ‘get it’. #
  • 06 Viu Manent La Capilla Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (Colchagua): It’s all big – the dark fruit, the leather, the booze… & the green pepper. #
  • 06 Mondavi To Kalon Vineyard Fume Blanc Reserve (Napa Valley): Like a bodybuilder; sexy to some, but not to everyone. As big as SB gets. #
  • 01 Ch. La Nerthe (Chateauneuf-du-Pape): Those pissing & moaning about CdP have clearly never tasted this intense red fruit goodness. Saps… #
  • 01 French Creek Ridge Vidal Blanc Ice Wine (PA): Peach & grape on the nose, pure honey on the palate. Not too complex, but it’s sexy anyway. #
  • Bodegas y Vinedos Pascual Toso Sa Toso Brut (Argentina): Loire-inspired sparkler. Loire-esque? No. Tasty? Hell yeah. Apples abound. #
  • Bodega Norton Torrontes (Mendoza): Almost like Riesling on the nose, almost really smooth on palate, & at $9 VERY easy on the bank account. #
  • 06 Montes “Limited Selection” Pinot Noir (Chile): The smell of OR, the fat of CA. Strawberry & violets are there, & so is… green pepper… #
  • 06 Santa Ema Carmenere Barrel Select (Chile): Wallop of black cherry, black pepper, and black chocolate. Oh, yeah, and… GREEN PEPPER! #

  • 08 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough): With those tropical fruits, this is NZ SB with a big, fun Hawaiian shirt and a sun hat. #
  • 08 Alamos Malbec (Mendoza): Inky & not as big as you might expect, but still much more of a ‘Godzilla’ wine than, say, a ‘Moth-Ra’ wine. #
  • 07 Wolffer Estate Icewine (Hamptons): White pear, sugar crystals, and glycerin. Sounds like a bomb, but that 20+ sec. finish is THE bomb… #
  • 07 Shinn Estate Cabernet Franc (North Fork, LI): Pre-release, promises to be stunning. A carriage ride through spice & red berry patches… #
  • 05 Wolffer Premier Cru Merlot (Hamptons): The blueberry fruit is svelte, as are the minerals, spices & liveliness. The price is NOT svelte. #
  • 06 Merliance Merlot (Long Island): 5-winery LI showcase blend. All smoke on the nose, but smooth as silk red berry once it hits your mouth. #
  • 06 Mer Soleil Barrel Fermented Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands): It was a BIG time when they drank BIG wines with BIG butter & BIG oak… #

  • 07 Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc (Napa Valley): Granddaddy of modern CA wine going strong. More lemongrass & vanilla than a Vietnamese dinner. #
  • 07 Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon (CA): Cab?? Yeah, & I’m the Pope. Amazingly unbalanced for its low abv. To be served to your worst enemies. #
  • 05 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley): Blackberry & chocolate. Probably overdone, but with grilled steak you won’t mind one bit #
  • 04 Cornerstone Cellars Howell Mtn. Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley): Sublime balance btw focused black fruit & silky tannic structure. Drool #
  • 08 MontGras Reserva Carmen√®re (Colchagua Valley): Black, spicy & peppery enough to stand up to blackened swordfish. Tasty, if not exciting. #
  • 06 Martin Codax Ergo (Rioja): New world in terms of forward berry fruit, old world in terms of acidity & raging, massive Rioja oakiness. #
