Great point - there are some AWESOME people in the wine biz. Sometimes all it takes is asking a question or two and you're bound to get help, because the people want to share their passion.

There's always money for alcohol when you're young!

I'm 24 and working on my WSET right now. A friend of mine is 22 and starting his Diploma next week. Two years ago, when I started going to industry tastings, I was nervous and worried I would be ignored. However, as soon as I start asking questions, I find the older generation getting excited to talk with me. I have even found they`re sometimes more willing to pull out the pricey bottles for me than for my restaurant owner, because I`m not jaded yet - I`m going to freak out and appreciate it 100%. That's one of the things I love about this industry. People are so encouraging, so prepared to fuel your fire and mentor you where ever they can.

Thanks.

It's interesting (to me, anyway) - I'm 37, and I find that my natural inclination when it comes to wine and responding to how wine is marketed is much closer to how your generation looks at those same things. It's not that I'm so much older, but I still find it surprising.

Anyway - cheers!

Thanks for this post! I am glad someone has started focusing on our generation (I'm 26 and a winemaker) not just as consumers but as active individuals in the wine industry!

Great interview. I think it is neat to profile a young person whose family is already in the wine industry to see what her take is. I enjoyed reading about Hailey (I actually met her brother Loren) and I hope you do more interviews like this soon! I'm a young wine drinker myself (about to turn 26 - ahhh!!) and I do think it is interesting how our generation approaches wine very differently. I just learned that young people tend to prefer red wines over white wines (check out the post on Vinography), which is interesting and I think we'll see a lot of changes as this generation has more buying power.
